I’ve just published an update for Quick and Dirty - The simple image editor for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display…

Retina Mac Apps tracks a growing list of Retina-aware Mac Apps. And yours truly is also listed with some of his many Retina-ware Apps…

After weeks Apple has finally approved the latest Free update. This updates adds support for the awesome new Retina Display and comes with a German localization and I’ve prepared other localizations for future updates.
I’ve also worked on the iCloud integration that will hill to get the iPad version done.
The website, its manual and the tips and tricks page are now also optimized for retina displays …

In case you’ve missed it. Apple has approved the latest AppLauncher update. It is now Retina-aware, faster and now also support your Safari bookmarks and Google Suggestions. I’ve also worked on the prediction logic – means, not only often used items will sorted first but AppLauncher now also tries to ‘anticipate’ what you want …

No – I’ve not started a carrier as a director for crappy porn movies and I also did not created a remix for DJ Kue.
I’ve written Quick and Dirty just to have a simple solution for my new MacBook Pro with Retina Display. To crop, adjust and save images for weblog articles or to quickly create screen shots with annotations for the MOApp support for the time being – until others will fill that void.
Of course, it will also work with Non-Retina Displays/Macs as well – but keep in mind, that it can only work for one pixel density at a time. On multiple display setups you should always use it on the main screen.
It is not perfect, does only the really basic stuff – but is fast and easy to use. Open image, crop it, enhance it and save it for the web in less than 3 seconds. That’s its purpose. Nothing else.
It makes use of the Photoshop shortcuts for those tasks and it is designed to not alter the original file until you really want/need to. That’s why you can only save for the web or save a copy by default/ with the standard actions and that’s also why Auto Save and Versions are disabled by default and the recommended way to save an edited image is by using the ‘Save for Web…’ menu command.
That’s pretty much all you need to know. And no – it is not written to be a replacement for any other image editing App at all. And it will never be – but if you find a bug, I’ll be happy to fix it.
Have fun with your awesome new Retina MacBook Pro and maybe a little bit with Quick and Dirty :–)

I guess AppLauncher is one of my most often used Apps – or even the most used and that’s why it does not make any fun at all to see it all ugly and blurred on the new Retina MacBook Pro.
So I wrote a complete new version the last couples of days and I also added

support for the Safari Bookmarks Bar and

Google Suggestions.
Because I first have to figure out how to get this all new version thru the review (mainly because of the sandboxing) – you can work with this preview for the time being:

Yesterday I’ve submitted a Retina-aware update of Free for review and because it is one of my latest Apps and already written for Lion/Mountain Lion it only needed some more or less minor changes I could finish in a couple of days.
Write on the other hand is one of my oldest Apps. Actually its pre-predecessor named Schreiben was one of my very first Apps. And even though that it was rewritten a couple of times of the years to keep track with new OS X releases – some of the code is very old – especially that for displaying and manipulating text and therefore does not play nice with the new Retina display all the time.
That’s why I decided to make a clean cut and also raise the requirements. Write 2 will be Lion/Mountain Lion only and pixel perfect on the new MacBook pro with Retina display as well.
Write 1 will be still available on the App Store for those with Snow Leopard and those that won’t/need to upgrade directly. Because it is an App Store only App – the limitations regarding updates will apply.
You will have to purchase it (I will offer it for a discounted price for a short period of time) again and there is no change to migrate the old data (Preferences/Templates) automatically – but both Apps can run on the same Mac at the same time – therefore this will not be much of a problem.
Because Write is one of my most purchased Apps and heavily used from people still working with Snow Leopard it does not make sense to cut them off and if you don’t won’t to upgrade yet, you don’t need to – Write 1 is is already updated to work perfectly with Mountain Lion.
As soon as Write passed the review, I will, of course, publish this here, so you can grab the new version for the discounted price :–)
