A database of hidden settings for Mac OS X

Mountain Lion is coming tomorrow

As already expected – Mountain Lion will hit the Mac App Store tomorrow. I like this (more or less) new version of OS X, simply because it makes development easier and more fun :–)

That’s why I am also happy to let you know that all of my Apps – available on the Mac App Store – are already updated to work without any problems with Apple’s new cat and I’ve also submitted Retina-aware versions for review of most of them.

So – enjoy your new version of OS X tomorrow and maybe some of my Apps as well :–)

Mac 101 - Printing Envelopes

I am constantly surprised by how many people don’t know how to print envelopes with their Macs or try to figure out how to do that with Word and therefore I receive mails on a daily basis of people asking me, why Write does not offer such a feature.

So – here’s the thing: Write does not need to have such a feature. Your Mac can already do that.

The Address Book App may be ugly – but at least it is quite good at printing envelopes and mailing lists.

Just select a card (or a group) and use the print command and select what you want to print out and hidden under the details tab, you can even fine tune every aspect …

Bringing iCloud to Snow Leopard

No iCloud for you, Garbage Collection!

Sometimes I just want to bang my head against all available walls – when it comes to Apple.

I have been trying to enable Write for the iCloud for days now and it just doesn’t work. No matter what I’ve tried.

As it turns out – you simply can’t use iCloud for GC enabled Apps. Period.

But Apple does not tell you that. And probably never will.

And in addition – most Sandbox related (and frustrating) bugs have also to do with it.

So, the bottom line is: In order to have working iCloud enabled Apps playing nice in their sandbox – you have to refactor them. As soon as possible.

So Apple, just out of curiosity
– ARC will be obsolete when? In 2014 or 2015?

Busy, me.

Busy, me.

The cat is out of the bag

And its name is Mountain Lion. Who would have guessed that :–)

I am exited. And this also means, that there is a lot of work coming towards me. Because as of today I have to start preparing all my Apps for 10.8. This also means, that the support for Snow Leopard will be discontinued in the near future.

I am already preparing a test MacBook Air for the hopefully today downloadable Developer Preview.

Did I mentioned, that I am exited?

Even if I fear the new direction in design.
Even more ‘ugly’ GUIs – like on iOS. Black windows, brown windows, yellow toolbars, green buttons and so on.

Really, Apple?

But hey – in the end its up to every developer what he/she is doing with it :–)
