Write 2 is coming

Yesterday I’ve submitted a Retina-aware update of Free for review and because it is one of my latest Apps and already written for Lion/Mountain Lion it only needed some more or less minor changes I could finish in a couple of days.

Write on the other hand is one of my oldest Apps. Actually its pre-predecessor named Schreiben was one of my very first Apps. And even though that it was rewritten a couple of times of the years to keep track with new OS X releases – some of the code is very old – especially that for displaying and manipulating text and therefore does not play nice with the new Retina display all the time.

That’s why I decided to make a clean cut and also raise the requirements. Write 2 will be Lion/Mountain Lion only and pixel perfect on the new MacBook pro with Retina display as well.

Write 1 will be still available on the App Store for those with Snow Leopard and those that won’t/need to upgrade directly. Because it is an App Store only App – the limitations regarding updates will apply.

You will have to purchase it (I will offer it for a discounted price for a short period of time) again and there is no change to migrate the old data (Preferences/Templates) automatically – but both Apps can run on the same Mac at the same time – therefore this will not be much of a problem.

Because Write is one of my most purchased Apps and heavily used from people still working with Snow Leopard it does not make sense to cut them off and if you don’t won’t to upgrade yet, you don’t need to – Write 1 is is already updated to work perfectly with Mountain Lion.

As soon as Write passed the review, I will, of course, publish this here, so you can grab the new version for the discounted price :–)
